Tourism Mississauga worked with TruCash to provide branded gift cards for its ‘It Pays to Stay’ promotion. This innovative incentive program offered visitors to Mississauga the opportunity to receive a prepaid Visa® card, which can be spent at local businesses, shops, and restaurants across the city.
Since the beginning of 2020, the tourism industry has been one of the hardest sectors hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the international travel restrictions also offered an opportunity to promote tourism within our own cities and boost the local economy.
Whether it’s supporting local hotels, local restaurants, or local storefronts, this first-of-its-kind initiative in Mississauga encouraged people to safely support local businesses and take in everything the city has to offer.
The prepaid Visa® gift cards were custom branded to Tourism Mississauga’s specifications and came in three different designs promoting the “Dine, Shop, Play” program themes. Cardholders will also have access to a branded balance checker mobile app to view balance and transaction history.
Through the ‘It Pays to Stay’ promotion, visitors can book a minimum two-night stay in Mississauga with any participating hotel and receive a $100 prepaid VISA® card at check-in. Recipients can use the cards to spend at local businesses during their stay to circulate the funding within city limits.
